Sorry, how we got the 911 for the video is a trade secret, we can't tell you.

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent!
TR has taken the next step!
All you need now is Keeley Hazel for VJ haha! - Wait thats been done before!! we'll have to stick to your mugs instead!
Riyad said on 5th September 2008
Obviously Keeley begged us to let her present the videos, but IPC management said that all presenters had to keep their clothes on!

What a brilliant idea! I've seen video reviews on other sites, but the ones i've seen here so far are much better, being more critical of large flaws (something that sites like cnet don't seem to fussed about...). I hope that you still write the normal reviews in tamdem, so that we have as much info to go off when making a purchase - the video review for a proper feel for the device, and the text for specs and stuff :)
Again - nice work guys, nice to see expansion at TR!
Hallainzil said on 5th September 2008
Awesome! Really looking forward to this! Keep it up guys!

"hope that you still write the normal reviews in tamdem, so that we have as much info to go off when making a purchase"
No worries, that's exactly what we're planning to do - we see video as enriching the reviews we already publish, giving you a new angle. I think the camcorder reviews are a good example. Being able to look at footage from the cameras and see the menus is something you can't do in normal written reviews.

Wow, impressive quality video stream....almost looks CGI...but then you would have altered your faces. haw haw
Seriously though, some TR branded polo shirts might help rather than the least stained tee shirt from the washing pile (I'm exaggerating I know, but it would look a lot more pro without much outlay), and perhaps, seeing as you got the Porsche, the company could foot the bill for some styling, i.e. just some more appealing hairstyles.
I know, I know, you can't polish a turd, but if one goes video then you gotta expect some other expectations beyond poetic prose.
Very professionaly done otherwise, good work.

Excellent. It is a little disturbing, a bit like listening to someone on the radio for years not knowing what they look like and then having them creep into your bedroom and touch your leg.
Actually, having given it some more thought it is not really like that at all.
Fine work, I give you 9/10 (lady presenter and haircut for Mr Chester away from a ten).
Jay said on 5th September 2008
anyone know why i am unable to view any of them? are they in a special codec?
Gavin Hamer said on 5th September 2008
I dunno, I can identify with the ugly fellas in these videos! I don't want some ditzy bimbo telling me about a USD port.
Andy said on 5th September 2008
Tell me about it! I have to live Ed and his god damn hair gets everywhere! ;)
Andy said on 5th September 2008
@Jay: Do you have the latest version of Flash Player installed?

"Excellent. It is a little disturbing, a bit like listening to someone on the radio for years not knowing what they look like and then having them creep into your bedroom and touch your leg."
We should give out prizes for witty comments because that one deserves a reward - absolute classic!
As for the haircut...
Oh sorry, I've got a phonecall, must go.
TheMonkeyHead said on 5th September 2008
@ Ed. Prizes are good:
3G iphone, Sony reader or your severed pony tail in a jiffy bag.
I would see any two of these as suitable recompense for my wit.
You decide.
bazza said on 5th September 2008
I don't care if its a male or female, as long as he or she is a competent reviewer and demonstrates the device fairly to the best of their ability.
Jay said on 5th September 2008
@Andy - yeah latest flash latest everything i do get asked if i want to run Quicktime on pretty much every page, apart from the one the video is on, u rekon i should allow that? just makes load up times slower if i allow it
Frank said on 5th September 2008
Be sure to include cameras in the reviews, particularly DSLRs.
I expect some kit will now get higher usability marks, it it's You Tube compliant.
Geoff Richards said on 5th September 2008
@Jay - I'm happy to try and diagnose this for you. Please email me detailing your browser / OS / plugins etc My contact details are on the Contact Us page (see the bottom menu)
FYI there should be no reason why you can't see the video. They are output as standard Flash FLV and don't require specific codecs. If anyone can't see them then I would start with a (short) list of potential culprits such as FlashBlock, AdBlock and / or Linux...
Jay said on 5th September 2008
no need, you're right it was my adblocker stopping it. i just didnt assume it because it has never blocked these type of videos before.
Thanks for the help :)
Jay said on 5th September 2008
also i am loving the reviews it is perfect for the site and really good quality

Gets my vote, Excellent.
Kinda fun to see you guys too ..I'm just looking forward to a certain Mr Kelly reading the news! ;)

*Applause* The video compression is great, The presenters are very audible and professional. Your videos give more information other than its specs, visual description and verdict unlike some media "insert adjective here" *cough* cnet but boy! we need some sort of makeover...nothing too extreme lol! just a few tweaks to make you more err...."friendly"

female presenters please!
^ Yes, preferably naked!
Just kidding. Gender of the presenters doesn't bother me.
Very very cool reviews! Thank you for making my day. :)

So that's what you lot look like then :-~ So let's move quickly on...
;-)
Great quality video/sound & no real delay when start playing :-)
Watched most currently available reviews & you seem to have used the new medium to it's best advantage e.g. show the product from all angles and don't just regurgitate statistics from the review text. A common request going forward will be for more video reviews
Hopefully the video review will always be posted at the same time as text review [or you post it again on your front page] as I usually only look at review once
Hopefully you won't in future allow comments by video!
Steve said on 6th September 2008
I also had trouble seeing the videos. I use Kaspersky and tried adding trustedreviews.com to the white-list of the content filtering section but this didn't work.
I discovered that the videos are hosted by brightcove.com so added that to the white-list and 'hey presto' the vids are working.
Hope this can help anyone else having problems.

TrustedReviews Polo T-Shirts is a great idea! Just to give you guys a more professional look, and a cool look also! ;-)
lifeisagame said on 6th September 2008
great job TR these video reviews are actually very usefull unlike the video reviews over at CNET.co.uk which are completely useless and also I noticed that the quality of their written revies is falling so I think soon I will only be checking TR and take CNET out of my bookmarks.
ChaosDefinesOrder said on 6th September 2008
Great addition guys! It's amusingly interesting to see what you look like now!
I agree with sugob, you've obviously thought properly about how best to do the video reviews and have addressed things at just the right angle!
Bit of a suggestion though: When you have a review that's text based as normal, and also video reviewed (eg iPhone 3G), have a video icon and/or "watch video" link next to or above the "leave a comment/x comments" link in the front page. At the moment, unless I missed it, unless you click the "go to latest video reviews" link at the top of the page there doesn't seem to be an obvious indication that a product review has a video counter-part
anyway, great job guys!
Geoff Richards said on 6th September 2008
@Chaos - there is. You did miss it :)

I was just viewing the iPhone video review and I do have a couple of comments:
1. It's a phone so it would have been nice to see how it handled phone functionality like contacts and text messaging.
2. Some video of other smartphone interfaces would be nice to back up the revolutionary claim. (Even just the next best one would do).
Also generally it would be nice if you did technology videos similar to the technology articles. While the articles cover things like HD DVD and Blu-ray or CUDA and CTM the videos could cover the differences between LCD technologies (TN/MVA/PVA/IPS) and the relative sizes, weights and bootup times of netbooks (for weight you could have them all hanging from science lab springs with the heavier ones stretching the springs further).
m_memmory said on 7th September 2008
What would be nice (if possible) is to be able to pause the video while it carries on downloading the next part so that you could watch it once it's all cached.
My net connection isn't the greatest/fastest (although it would be nice to get the speed that I'm paying "up to") and so when trying to watch the iPhone video I was able to watch it - but only in about 4 or 5 chunks as I'd watched upto what I'd downloaded and then had to wait for the streaming to catch up again. That's rather irritating waiting for it to catch up (and I wasn't doing anything else online either to use my bandwidth)

A video showing the product is one thing but must we really see your ugly mugs too ;-)
I predict management will be replacing you with professional booth bunny VJs in no time at all.
and how did the business case for the Porsche go .... yeah we really need a Porsche for videoing SatNav and ICE gadgets !?
I think we should be told.
