Amazon Echo, order me a Domino’s pizza

The road to pizza is growing shorter by the day…

Amazon has added a new feature to the Amazon Echo assistant, which lets users order Domino’s Pizza using their voice.

The feature is now live within the Amazon Alexa app, which lets you link the system with your Domino’s Pizza Profile.

You can also enter the phone number associated with an order, and track the status of your pizza using Alexa – the digital assistant that powers Amazon Echo.

The magic of ordering pizza without lifting a finger and just using your voice is now a reality with Alexa and Domino’s,” said Rob Pulciani, Director of Amazon Alexa.

The new feature arrives just in time for the Super Bowl 50, which takes place on February 7.

Domino’s expects to sell over 12 million pizzas in the US on game day alone – some of which will undoubtedly come courtesy of Amazon Echo.

“We want to continue making ordering pizza as convenient as possible, and this is no exception,” says Dennis Maloney, Domino’s VP and Chief Digital Officer.

Maloney continues: “Customers can order from anywhere they are, including from the comfort of their couch while watching Sunday’s football game.”

“Domino’s is the first in the pizza and quick-service restaurant industries to have an Amazon Alexa skill, says Maloney.”

Domino’s also offers a number of other “smart” order methods, including via emoji, Twitter, SMS, smart TVs, and now Amazon Echo.

In anticipation of the Denver vs North Carolina match, Domino’s has provided some game day pizza stats:

  • Domino’s expects to sell over 4 million chicken wings
  • Domino’s delivery drivers will cover the equivalent of 700 round trips from Denver to Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Domino’s tends to see sales increase when games are a close match
  • The city of the winning team will see higher sales at the end of the game
  • During the 2015 Super Bowl, Domino’s delivered enough pizzas to stretch across 4,200 football fields

Echo, Amazon’s wireless speaker assistant, was first released on November 6, 2014.

The device responds to the name ‘Alexa’, although users can change the name to ‘Amazon’ if they prefer.

Amazon Echo currently retails at $179.99, as purchased directly through Amazon.
