Apple dominates the USA, but Android remains king

It might feel like everyone and their aunt has an iPhone, but how does the share of smartphones actually break down?

Market analysis firm ComScore has released a new report on the state of smartphones in the USA last quarter.

According to the data, 43.6% of all smartphone subscribers in the country are using an Apple device.

That’s actually down on the previous quarter, but only by 0.5% – not exactly an earth-shattering loss.

Samsung held second place with a 27.6% share, although it also saw a 0.5% change down on last quarter.

The shares seriously start to trickle off after Samsung however, with LG taking third place at 9.4%.

That represents a 1.1% growth for the South Korean tech giant – that’s the only growth in the top five.

Motorola came in fourth with 4.8%, followed closely by HTC at 3.3%.

But while Apple might appear to dominate the US smartphone market, Android is still the leading mobile operating system.

Google’s platform holds an impressive 52.3% – an increase of 0.7% on last quarter.

Unsurprisingly, Apple takes second place, falling 0.5% quarter-on-quarter to 43.6%.

Microsoft is third, albeit with a lowly 2.9%, followed by BlackBerry, which touts an even paltrier 1.2%.

However, the launch of Windows 10 will likely give that figure a boost in the coming months.

Do any of these figures surprise you? Let us know in the comments.
